A still life almost necessarily deals with the impermanence of things. Whether you look at the graves in ancient egypt with food depicted on the walls, or at photographs of partys, desperately trying to conserve that specific moment. I have to admit, neither the party pic nor Victor Remeres work are still lifes in a classical sense. But all revolve about a longing for eternity, or at least a decelerated decay. They do this in a more or less reflected way of course. Decay is a planned feature in Nature Morte. As the potatoes produce electricity for the light to burn, they start disintegrating. It is a zestful, yet anxious consideration of our common fate.
Victor's work was shown for one day in the course of reopening Neue Kunsthalle Stuttgart June 7 2014
